Lease takeover (Oct 4 2010 - July 31, 2010)

We need more space, so we are moving.

Here is the craigslist ad w/ a few photos of interior:

Here is the contact information for the realtor for viewing and re-leasing information.

I don't have any pets, so I don't know the realtor's specific pet policy about this property.
- For questions about utility costs, please contact me through the craigslist site. Thanks!!

Thank you for the information.
So I'm just gonna have to check what the lowest price is. I'll post it back on the forum.

Postdocs/staff and faculty can use the medical services on campus, however they will be charged for their appointment at a rate that is higher than students, and this may be more than the fee for using an in-network provider. But, no matter where you go, a physical is not covered by health insurance and may cost $80 or more.

Hi everybody
I have been told that PSU students can get a medical exam at the health center in order to get their driving license. I don't know if there is a cost.
Does this apply to post-doc as well?

Hi everyone!

At the Penn State Postdoctoral Society (PSPS), we would like to know if it would make sense to organize group tickets purchase for the next year season of the Center for the Performing Arts . Besides the fact that the participation to such event would be a great opportunity to get-together in an artistic atmosphere, it is worth noticing that any group exceeding 15 adults get a 20% discount on regular adult ticket prices.

The principle of such plan would be that anybody (postdoc/family/friends…) could join the group for one or as many representations as desired.

For each event, we would proceed as follows:
- 45 days before the performance, I would send an email to the PSPS-list to probe the interest for the next show/concert.
- Between 45 days and 30 days before the performance, I would collect the ticket requests and corresponding payments (check only).
- 30 days before the performance, two cases are possible:
- If the critical number of 15 participants has not been reached, the group purchase is canceled and checks are sent back to the issuers.
- Otherwise, the tickets are bought and distributed to the participants.

We would like to know if this sounds good to you. Don’t hesitate to talk about this around you. The more we are, the more successful it will be.

We are waiting for your feedback. Tell us if you would be interested in such initiative.

I was wondering if anyone would like to spend more time outdoors. Maybe we could join a group for walking/running in some park one day on weekends? Eventually we could invite some PI to join us (maybe explicitly organize some "Bring your PI for some fresh air" once a year?), what could in turn help to address mentorship issues.

I'm up for Otto's but I would said that maybe Friday might work better. Perhaps we don't need to make that every week but once a month? Again, maybe once in a while we could invite some PIs to join.

Also, while the mentioned above might not necessarily exclude family participation (in fact it would be cool if we could take the kids for some bird seeing while walking and finish with a barbecue!), we should be aware that July is approaching and there are some events surrounding the Arts Festival, that could be a good opportunity to bring postdocs with kids together and spend some time networking while kids play around.

In the winter time some film series might bring postdocs and families together (while sharing tea/coffee/homemade cakes… yum!)

Penn Skates

http://www.pennskates.com/

has "Tiny tot skate and roll" on Friday afternoons 4:30-6:45, where children under 6 can go skating or ride around on their tricycles. Would anyone be interested in going together? Our daughter went with her preschool and the kids had a great time. We can try and organize a room there perhaps for some food.

What about benefits at Penn State?

Hi,
I would love to know fellow postdocs' thoughts on how the Postdoc Society can improve the postdoc experience at Penn State. Any thoughts/ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Allison

Hi Jason,
I just added a thread to the forum about social events. I don't know how to get it set up as its own category. Can you fix that?
Thanks,
Allison

Hi,
I am wondering what types of social events postdocs here would be interested in. We are thinking of doing a family picnic in the summer or fall. Would that be something you would attend? Also, is anyone interested in trivia nights at Otto's? I don't know much about it yet, but I think it is on Tuesday nights.
